If you are in the midst of a divorce or separation and you live in Rhode Island, consider an alternative, non-adversarial approach that will allow you to discuss and negotiate your own settlement agreement, and save money.

At MOUTHPEACE MEDIATION, our non-judgemental style provides our clients with a broader perspective of the issues and possible solutions for resolving their conflicts. Experienced with the issues of divorce, we are unique in that we offer expertise as well as gender balance.

Using mediation usually results in a quicker divorce, a more amicable divorce, and a less costly divorce.

Divorce mediation is not a substitute for independent legal advice. Once the mediation process is complete, you may file your divorce pro se (by yourself, without an attorney) or ask an attorney to draw up the final agreement to be submitted to the court.

Our services are available days, evenings and weekends in the Rhode Island area. Our hours are flexible and mediation sessions are arranged to best meet your needs.

CHILDREN AND DIVORCE

We know that, during this difficult time, you are striving to give your children what is best for them, that you want to reduce the impact of the divorce on them, and your greatest hope for them is a happy childhood and a bright future. You can count on us to keep your children's needs in the forefront of every discussion that takes place in mediation.
HELPING CHILDREN GET THROUGH DIVORCE
All of the parents we talk with who are getting divorced want what is best for their children. Many divorcing parents are distraught over the pain and suffering they see their children experiencing during and after a divorce.
Children need both parents to be there for them during and after a divorce. There are some things parents can do to help their children:
-
Keep children out of the middle.
-
Provide an environment that allows children freedom to express their concerns and feelings, even negative ones.
-
Support contact with grandparents and other extended family.
-
Help your children feel good about themselves.
-
Consider family therapy or individual therapy.
-
Avoid criticizing the other parent.
-
Be flexible.
-
Both parents can help their children by establishing a workable means of communication with each other.
-
Children fare best when they have the emotional and financial support and ongoing involvement of both parents.
-
Consider mediation as an alternative to fighting in court.
Mediation is an opportunity to sit down and work out a parenting schedule, custody plan and division of assets and debts. Mediation is less costly and helps you to get through the divorce faster.
Mediation can also help after divorce when parents are unable to reach agreement about parenting issues.
